Post game news and notes
Before I start, think about what a week the Bears have had. Since last Wednesday, Baylor has defeated the following teams: Nebraska, Kansas, Texas and Georgetown. No matter how poorly those teams have played, that’s a credit to coach Drew’s coaching.
Somewhere on Baylorfans.com, there’s a poster bashing his had at the comment.
- Baylor is now 1-3 in the NIT. It’s Baylor’s first win since March 23 1950. That was a 56-55 win against BYU.
- Baylor set the following records: most points (2,668, the previous was 2008 with 2,601), most 3-pointers made (282), most 3-pointers attempted (785) free throws made (550).
- The last time the Bears shot over 60 percent from the floor was Dec. 31 2008 against Jackson State.
Quotes:
- “Wow, my grandmother isn’t even 50.” — Kevin Rogers on the drought of postseason men’s basketball wins. I’m fairly certain he was being fecetious. That would mean his mother and grandmother had to average 13.5 years old when they had a baby.
- “I think with the week that we just had — beating Kansas, Texas and Georgetown, those are three big name programs. I can’t be more proud of it happening to this group of seniors and letting them enjoy it.” — Scott Drew
- “Same shots as the first half, they just didn’t fall. That is it.” -Georgetown forward Greg Monroe on the differences between the halves.
Player of the game: LaceDarius Dunn. He can shoot them out of games (Missouri) and shoot them into others (Georgtown, Kansas). Tonight, he was on fire.
Defensive play of the game: The stretch from 4:32-2:04. The Bears doubled the guard with the ball, but still maintained strutural integrity in the zone, forcing the Hoyas to take and miss four 3-pointers.
Biggest surprise: Georgetown’s youth. They played well in spurts, but couldn’t close it out.
Quick note: The Bears could return home should the defeat Virginia Tech and either Northwestern, Tennessee-Martin or Tulsa advance to face the Bears.
